Music is the weapon of the future
June Sometimes is the creative moniker of John Eni-Ibukun, a Nigerian culture curator, poet and multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of poetry, music culture and community building within the African creative ecosystem.
His work explores African identity, spirituality, nostalgia and contemporary storytelling through poetry, music and cultural programming. His practice centres on creating platforms that connect artists and audiences while reviving poetry as a communal cultural experience.
June's creative practice blends spoken-word performance with music and storytelling, reflecting on memory, spirituality and personal introspection while situating individual narratives inside broader cultural contexts.
Recognising the gradual decline of poetry as a visible communal practice, he founded The Mevlana Project, an initiative dedicated to revitalising spoken-word culture through curated performances, workshops and collaborative programming.
